The Duke (Wayne Flint) – since 2008

Personal details (correct at August 2011):
- Nick origin: “The Duke” as in the nickname of the famous actor John Wayne.
- Age and DOB: 39 / 8th June 1972
- Height and Weight: 188cm / 86kg
- Marital status: Married to Belinda
- Kids: Kyle (7yrs) & Alannah (3yrs)
- Favourite quote: Two of mine are “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” (Les Brown) and “A full life is a life full of pain. But the only alternative is not to live fully or not to live at all.” Scott Peck.
Cycling:
- Joined 6am-ers: July 2008 (I think)
- Introduced to 6am-ers by: TBF (aka The Big Fella aka Julian Paynter)
- Cycling Club: Carnegie Caulfield Cycling Club
- Current Bike: Azzurri Forza (2005). Also building a 2011 Wilier Gran Turismo (Italian Throughbred)
- Why I ride: Just like when you were a kid, the freedom. The added benefits of being fit & healthy, exploring the countryside & meeting like minded people who inevitably always become your mates is the cherry on top.
- Most significant cycling achievement: Apart from being able to physically ride 100km+ whenever I feel like it (& being allowed the time to do so), it would have to be finishing the Melbourne to Warrnambool Cycling Classic (twice so far).
- Podium race results: 3rd 2010 CCCC Club Championships. 2nd 2010 CCCC Crib Point. 3rd 2011 BBN Warburton B Grade & numerous podiums finishes in summer crit races.
- Major goal for the coming year: Finish Top 10 (Masters 1-3) in the Tour of Bright (sick last year).
- Favourite ride (non 6am-ers route): Apart from the mountains around Bright. I would say the country around my hometown of Glenmaggie. It has everything, from flat & windy dairy plains to the foothills of the great dividing range. Can’t wait to get a group of 6am-ers up there one-day.
- Favourite ride (6am-ers route): Any ride that gets us to Emerald Bakery for a Linzer Torte.
- Favourite cycling event: Tour of Bright. The whole vibe of 550 cyclists in a small town makes it unique plus combining it with a family holiday makes it extra special.
